A beautiful book. Alison Uttley is a wonderful writer. Its so evocative - the descriptions of the surroundings and the food and everything from both time periods in the book makes you feel like you are there.
It's quite sad because the author doesn't change or alter History and the events are based on a true story/5(94). The book started off well with The house of Uttley book start of the Uttley name and how it passed from generation to generation. The later part of the book just related a lot of historic information about battles in the first and second world wars rather than the name of Uttley/5(3).
